Brrr! New England has been so chilly and dry lately! I’ve teamed with one of my favorite tried-and-true brands, Dove Advanced Care Antiperspirant, to bring you some winter skincare survival tips.

I, for one, always pride myself on taking good care of my skin, but unfortunately, after the holiday season, I always feel that my skin takes a bit of a beating. After all the holiday parties and late nights, I find myself failing to stick to my nighttime routine. Barely taking my makeup off at night can put my skin in trouble the next morning. Plus, all the rich buttery and sugary foods I’ve been eating this season (I know I’m not alone – I know for a fact you have indulged, too!!) don’t exactly do any favors for my skin. Not to mention that with all the cold, dry air, characteristic of a New England winter, means a little extra tender loving care is required for radiant skin.

So, now that the New Year is here and resolutions are set, it is time to make winter skincare a priority. Fortunately for us, Dove Dermatologist, Dr. Alicia Barba, has agreed to share some key tips for winter skincare survival.

First of all, Dr. Barba says to skip the exfoliation. For me, personally, whenever I feel a little breakout coming on, I almost always go straight for the scrub. According to Dr. Barba, over-exfoliating can strip the skin of its essential oils, leading to breakouts in the dryer, colder months, the exact opposite of what we hope the exfoliation will accomplish. She says this is because people think that rubbing off dead skin cells daily will improve skin, when it actually can dehydrate it.

Next up: Don’t forget your underarms! Just because you can go from your daily underarm shaving routine to shaving every other day (or even less) in the winter, doesn’t mean you can neglect your underarms altogether. Dr. Barba wants to remind us just how sensitive underarm skin is underneath all of our layers and itchy wool sweaters. To keep that skin hydrated and protected, try Dove Advanced Care Antiperspirant, which is formulated with moisturizers to help alleviate irritation and leave you with softer and smoother underarms.

Dove deodorant was always the product my mom used and it was the first deodorant she bought for my sister and me when we were younger. I always loved how gentle the product was but also that it was effective. I always buy Dove for myself all these years later, and I was so excited when Dove started to offer the Advanced Care Antiperspirant. The first time I gave it a shot, I knew I was a convert to this new product because of how silky and soft it made my underarms feel, in addition to 48-hour wetness protection. I don’t know about you, but I may have skipped my shower and stayed in my pajamas all day long with my family the day after Christmas – you can bet I was glad to have that 48-hour protection!

My mom and sister and I have always been loyal to Original Clean scent, but I love that the Advanced Care line has a lot of new fragrances like Lavender Fresh and Soothing Chamomile (my personal favorite)! The chamomile scent is so relaxing and gives me a mini spa-moment each morning when I put it on. Check out the full line and visit Dove Advanced Care Antiperspirant online.

Another one of Dr. Barba’s tips is to stick to a bedtime routine. I think it’s important to find a bedtime routine that works for your lifestyle and then stick to it no matter what. Remember all those late (potentially boozy – so even worse for your skin!!) nights during the holiday season? Did you forget to take your makeup off of NYE? Well, now is the time do penance for all of those skin sins! Dr. Barba recommends these key nightly steps: 1) wash your face, 2) apply a retinol, and 3) moisturize, of course!

Lastly, don’t forget your sunscreen during the day! Dr. Barba reminds us that harmful UV rays don’t take a break for the winter. She recommends switching to a moisturizing sunscreen, a bit richer than your summer product. Even though I tend to bundle up so much that all that is exposed to the sun is a small sliver of my face, sometimes I skip the sunscreen. I surely won’t be doing that anymore!

2018 has a lot of potential and I am so excited for the year ahead. I’m especially ready to kick my skincare routine into high gear and take care of all parts of my body!
