Newburyport Shopping

This past weekend I zipped out of town for a day of seaside shopping in Newburyport! If you are in the Boston area, or anywhere in New England really, Newburyport has got to be on your summer trip list – whether for a day trip or a getaway weekend. My parents used to bring my siblings and me to Newburyport when we where younger to walk around town and grab a bite to eat. I even remember spending hours trying to fly a kite with my dad at the nearby Plum Island beach. I have such fond memories of those days!

Whatever you do – you must start your day at Plum Island Coffee Roasters. Such a cozy coffee shop with so many creative drink options. I opted for a honey lavender latte, which was right up my alley (although at one point outside, the wind blew the milk foam right off the top…eek!).

One of my favorite shops we visited was Sea Bags of Maine. Their product concept is really cool – all of the bags are made from recycled sails. They estimate that over the past 15 years they have recycled 500 tons of material that would have otherwise ended up in a landfill. The company’s commitment to sustainability is admirable and their product is adorable! I especially love that each bag has a slightly weathered, vintage feel to it – representative of the salt, sun and sea it has been exposed to over the years.

Oregano’s Pizzeria for lunch was a much needed refuge from all the walking. We ordered plenty of food and ate way too much. Such a delicious feast. I know they say food always tastes better when you’re hungry (and we were hungry) but it’s now days later and I’m still dreaming of that pizza!

Best of British carries so many iconic British brands from Hunter and Barbour to Crabtree & Evelyn and Yardley, not to mention and endless selection of fun British candies. I’m kind of obsessed with this Avonmouth tee shirt!

If you are ever in a pinch for a cute gift while in Newburyport, Valentine’s is the way to go. This shop has to be the cutest around, with so many great ideas for weddings showers, birthdays anniversaries and more! After the gift shop popped into Life is Good to learn all about the original store right here in Newburyport and the original brand concept. Just across the street, we visited M.K. Benatti to swoon and to (try not to) drool over our future engagement rings…hah! But, seriously, there were some gorgeous pieces to try on. The best part was learning how each piece is custom designed modeled using a 3D printer and then made right there in Newburyport. All I have to say is…some day…

Soak & Shoreline was another of my favorites – how adorable are these little soaps?! There were so many different scents and colors, all made with different ingredients. I even picked up a fun lilac soap, which I can’t wait to test out. Many of the products in the store are made right there in Newburyport…and who doesn’t love locally made products? I know I do!

Michael’s Harborside is one of those places I remember going to as a kid. Such a fun seaside atmosphere – perfect for just cocktails and apps or a full seafood dinner. It reminds me of some of my favorite places on Cape Cod. The fried pickles were my favorite! Anyone else feel like it is okay to eat fried food when you are by the water? Fried seafood is one of my favorite  the only ways I like my seafood.

What I’m wearing for a chilly, windy day by the sea:
Jacket: GAP // Sweater: Old Navy // Dress: GAP // Shoes: Tory Burch // Bag: Street Level // Sunnies: Warby Parker

I’ll definitely be making a trip back to this quintessential New England town this summer. Next on my list: kayaking at Plum Island Kayak.

Anyone up for a trip to Newburyport?!
