How To Get Soft Hair

Did you ever believe the myth that if you brushed your hair 100 times per day, you would have the softest hair ever? Growing up, I fell victim to this urban legend and actually counted out 100 brush strokes before bedtime on a few occasions. This was actually probably quite damaging to my hair, and I likely did more harm than good in the long run. Fortunately, I’ve found a better way to keep my hair as soft as ever, and I’m teaming up with Hair Cuttery to share the details with you!

It all starts with using the right products – nourishing and hydrating products! Of course, it is important to get regular cuts (at least once per season) and limit heat styling tools, but Redken’s All Soft product line is a great way to improve hair health and protect against some of that damage.

My Favorite All Soft Products

Redken’s fan favorite All Soft Shampoo & Conditioner has also been one of my own personal favorites for years. I was first introduced to it because there was always a stocked supply off it at my boyfriend’s family’s summer home in Cape Cod. I used it once when I forgot to bring my own shampoo and was immediately hooked. After a swimming in the saltwater, I would absolutely look forward to washing and conditioning my hair. It was like my own mini “spa-moment,” and I would always have silky soft hair in the evenings.

The sun and salt of Cape Cod summers as well as the cold and extreme dryness of New England winters can be seriously damaging. Since my hair is super fine, I’m always worried about the damage it takes from heat styling as well, and as a result, I do everything I can to protect it, from only washing every other day to homemade treatments. I always feel good about nourishing my vulnerable strands with All Soft because it is infused with argan oil and contains a protein complex that treats hair from root to tip.

Mega Masks For Extreme Softness

Redken’s Mega Masks have been a staple for me since I first tried one last year – during last year’s Hair Cuttery spring hair refresh. In the All Soft line, there are two different chambers in the Mega Mask that each contains a different formula, combining to provide your hair with 15x more conditioning to restore softness, shine, and suppleness. After just one use, my hair actually felt soft like a feather and was just as lightweight, too! Sometimes deep conditioning masks can weigh your hair down, and this definitely isn’t one of them!

For frizz control, the All Soft heavy cream is a fantastic option to extremely damaged and brittle hair. For now the Mega Mask is providing me with all the moisture I need, but I know the heavy cream product will become a regular necessity once I start spending more time in the sun and salt water.

Soft Hair Maintenance

Being a balayaged blonde who likes to use hot tools a few times a week, I am extremely cognizant of which hair products I use. I never want to use anything that will dry out my hair further or create any kind of weird film on top of my hair. I know some shampoos can make your hair feel fantastic but they are actually coating your hair with unhealthy silicones.

Anything that is truly nourishing and moisturizing is my cup of tea. I’ll do anything and everything from putting coconut oil in my hair overnight to a (much easier) Redken Mega Mask while I’m in the shower to keep my hair protected and touchably soft.

I try to get a haircut every couple of months, as well, just to cut the dead ends off to prevent further breakage up the hair shaft. Plus, I do my absolute best to limit my use of hot tools to just two times per week. Some weeks I’m better at this than others (it depends how many events I have), but it is a good practice to strive for.

If you’re due for a spring trim, check out Hair Cuttery’s salon finder to pop into the nearest location and refresh that dry winter hair.

How do you keep your hair soft and healthy despite a damaging environment or use of hot tools?
