Local Style

I know I’ve mentioned this before, but I love supporting local businesses, especially those who are socially responsible and are doing something great for our community. La Fille Colette of Boston, MA fits just that description. Today I’m sharing a look featuring her printed Mia dress. Colette and I actually met through Instagram (it is seriously crazy how friendships form through that platform) and then found out that we have a mutual friend.

Over the past year, I have been admiring Colette’s mixing of bold colors geometric shapes, and today I am honored to be sharing my absolute favorite print from her new collection! The combination of deep teals and lighter mint greens mixed with pretty shades of orchid is right up my alley. The gorgeous, yet subtle cut out around the collarbone area adds an unexpected and fun element to an otherwise high cut neckline. And the back…keep scrolling for a shot of the back of the dress!

Responsible Fashion

Aside from her unique designs, what really makes Colette stand out is her commitment to slow fashion. Americans are buying more clothes than ever before, which means they are also getting rid of more clothing than ever before. The increased production of textiles around the world, in addition to the wasted clothes Americans throw away each year is significantly impacting the fashion industry’s carbon footprint – and not in a good way.

Colette has her garments made in the United States by workers receiving fair wages, encouraging more manufacturing jobs to stay in America. Plus, the dresses are made in small batches, ensuring minimal waste and less excess inventory. Additionally, Colette places a huge emphasis on quality. She wants you to have a dress that will last years, and will not need to be disposed of any time soon.
