Evening Sail to St. John

Catamaran Cruise

In yesterday’s post, I mentioned the catamaran we took over to Jost van Dyke, the Lady Lynsey. Well, we hopped back up on that boat for an evening cruise to St. John for dinner. The warm breezy air during golden hour was the most perfect way to relax after a fun day of swimming, snorkeling and sunbathing (life is hard, I know). The sailboat had lots of comfy seating and a full bar (more painkillers!) underneath, but I preferred the bow. The netting you see here was brand new and the water was just a few feet below. It was amazing to look down and feel so connected to the ocean, despite the occasional salty splash.

Sailboat Style (Part 2)

For our evening cruise, I knew I wanted something light and breezy but that would also be appropriate for dinner. Before our trip, I came across this embroidered tie front dress from Nordstrom and was instantly lusting for the open stitching and embroidered floral eyelets.

I actually planned on wearing this dress later in the week (I wanted to wait until I had just a tiny bit of a glow), but I’m so glad I wore it on the boat. It was light and airy, but I also appreciated that it was long enough to not fly up in the wind and to keep me covered during all that crawling around on the netting.

^^ How cute is my baby sister?! It was so much fun to get some quality sister time during our week away together!

On St. John

I had visited St. John several times before. When I was younger, my family used to spend two weeks in a villa there each spring. We did this until I was almost in high school, when I couldn’t miss too much school anymore without repercussions. I have such fond memories of those vacations though. St. John was the perfect place to relax and spend time as a family. The vibe there is so laid back, and everyone is generally so happy. I know, I know, how could you not be on such a beautiful island. There are so many great restaurants and shops, and I couldn’t wait to do some exploring and reminisce.

It really was like a trip down memory lane. I hadn’t been back to St. John since I was about thirteen or so, and it was such a blast remembering all of the stops we used to frequent.

I couldn’t help but stop and take photos of all that was fun and colorful, like these golden pineapples! How cute?! I’m sure I looked like such a tourist snapping photos left and right, but it was worth it!

Extra Virgin Bistro

When deciding where to go for dinner, we were considering one of old favorite pastimes, but many of the locals recommended Extra Virgin. Almost everything is locally grown or locally sourced, and you can tell! All of the herbs are actually grown in hanging pots around the open air restaurant, and you can taste the freshness! If you do make it down to St. John, Extra Virgin is an absolute must! Be sure to try one of their homemade sodas as well, like the vanilla and white balsamic. It sounds crazy, but it is so good! My sister and I each drank two glasses that night….so worth it!

After a fun night of eating, drinking and exploring, we hopped back aboard the Lady Lynsey for a night sail back to St. Thomas. There is no experience quite like a night sail on calm waters. We had completely clear skies, and it was such a magical night. Never in my life have I seen the stars so crystal clearly. It was utterly breathtaking to lie aboard the smooth sailing catamaran for an evening of breathing in the warm, salty air (my favorite) and star gazing.
